Fascinating Authors

Author Profile – Peter Shianna: Love Tag

Q: What’s on your nightstand now?

A: The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. The narrator is a dog, albeit a very unusual dog. A marvelous book, so far.

Q: Favorite book as a child.

A: One I remember vividly is Bob, Son of Battle, which I read when I was about ten. The Scottish brogue was tough at times. In fact, the first time I tried reading the book, I gave up on it. But a year or so later I was able to get it.

Q: Current projects.

A: I’m writing a batch of short stories and my next novel, Imperfect Acts, which is about a mad-dog killer who has the police handcuffed. A boy who is committed to becoming a priest is faced with the prospect of murdering the killer in order to save his best friend, a girl who lives next door.

Q: When not writing.

A: My current passions are golf and pickleball, an addictive court game that I play five or six times a week. Fun and a terrific workout.

Q: What does your family think of your writing?

A: My wife thinks writing is my mistress. As such, she gets quite jealous at times. No, jealous isn’t the right word. Infuriated is more appropriate.

Q: Most surprising thing I learned in writing my books.

A: The characters actually do begin to take over and take the author down paths he had no idea or intention of following. Which is good. It shows that the characters are real and damned if they are going to do everything you think they should.
