A Dog’s Advice to Leaders by Jo Ellen Roe
This seems to be the year I’m discovering the canine counterparts to Robert Fulghum of All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten fame. I’m thinking that the well known cliché, Out of the Mouths of Babes, should be expanded to include the canines of the world. We are all familiar with the wisdoms that come out of the simplicity of the young and unworldly innocents, including, yes, dogs.
Initially, the year began with the gifting of my own first grandchild which just happened to be a grandpup, an adorable but physically-impaired Pit Bull puppy rescued from where he’d been dumped on the streets. In short order, it was re-emphasized to me, the power in a deed of concern and kindness for another living thing besides humans. Our family has never been so loved.
Next, I was introduced to Goody, a very wise Beagle, who re-educated me on the simple basic social skills that can be learned in any Dog Park. If Goody could be world president for a month, all Global conflicts would easily be solved.
Yet, there was more to come! Now, Jo Ellen Roe, in her job as Miss Brown’s human author, has assisted this beautiful, most intelligent Chocolate Labrador share her Thirteen Common Sense Principles to enhance our human leadership skills. Whether leading a business, a group, a job, or just your own life, Miss Brown’s simple CSP’s in her new book, A Dog’s Advice to Leaders, will have you eating out of her paws! They are simple, well-explained, and so easily applicable.
I did question one statement from Miss Brown that caused me a few moments of pondering. But, it was quickly figured out, I think. It seems to me, that what is so obviously common sense to Miss Brown is not so common among humans; but actually, rather rare. This may have been Miss Brown’s impetus for dictating this amazing little book to Jo Ellen Roe. Since, I don’t speak dog speak, I’ll suggest to Mrs. Roe that she have Miss Brown send her book to Bo, the new Alpha dog at our White House. Perhaps, Bo will tell his human to pass it around the halls of government, too!
