Janet Riehl
When Janet Riehl’s sister was killed in a car accident, it prompted a series of events that led to the publication of Sightlines, a Poet’s Diary.
After the loss of her sister, Janet felt a spiritual inspiration to begin writing poetry. During a spiritual retreat in Southwestern Illinois, she began writing through her grieving process. As Janet said “Through spiritual guidance, I was shown not only how to begin but also how to protect the work while writing. I wrote with the door closed, so to speak, without much commentary of critiquing from others. I simply wrote from my heart.”
Sightlines is a family memoir of six generations told in story poems. As much as it reveals the cycle of human life – caring for aging parents, death – - it also shows the ways in which difficulty strengthens family spirit. Sightlines shows how Janet’s family moved through the important stages of bereavement and became stronger as a family. We believe Sightlines makes a perfect textbook for life cycles and the importance of memory. Learn more at Janet’s new site, Riehl Life.
