Fascinating Authors

Cheryl Dellasega – Testings of Devotion

Q: What excites you most about your book’s topic? Why did you choose it?

Author: It seems many people aren’t aware of the spiritual battle that rages around us.  This isn’t a story of an ancient society interested in angels, it’s about the life and death struggle we are all caught up in every day.  Since researching and writing it, I’ve lost my “blame God for the bad things that happen” attitude.

Q: How long did the book take you from start to finish?

Author: Three years!

Q: What aspect of writing the book did you find particularly challenging?

Author: It really took a lot of editing and trying to keep it within the parameters of Christian theology was important too.

Q: What surprised you the most about the book writing process?

Author: I’ve written books before, but this one was the most enjoyable and exciting to write.

Q: Did you have any favorite experiences when writing your book?

Author: I wrote at a spiritual retreat house in the country, and one day when I drove up I saw a fox at the side of the driveway.  I had seen her before, but this time I decided to check things out so after I parked I went over and discovered she had a den of new baby kits.  They were so cute and adorable, and yet they knew exactly what to do when I stepped too close, even though they’d probably not seen a human before.  The perfection of the way our universe in its natural state functions always inspires me.

Q: What do you hope your readers will gain from reading your book?

Author: To be more interested in spiritual warfare and not afraid to talk about it.  Also to understand that we cannot control angels or get them to do our bidding.

Q: What projects are you currently working on?

Author: Another self help book.

Q: Is writing your sole career? If not, what else do you do?

Author: I’m a professor in a college where I teach humanities.

Q: Did you do any research for your books, or did you write from experience?

Author: I did lots of research and have three or four shelves of books on angels, heaven, etc.

Q: How did you come up with your title?

Author: God gave it to me.

Q: What books have influenced you the most?

Author: Gone With the Wind, To Kill a Mockingbird, the Bible, Faith and Practice, and so many more.

Q: Who was your publisher and why did you choose them?

Author: VMI chose me.  I found working with Bill Carmichael and Lacey Ogle a wonderful experience—they were very kind during a family tragedy and many difficulties that occurred during the writing of this book.
